Indigo Shouldn’t be in the Rainbow

Indigo really shouldn’t be in the rainbow as an “official color”. Issac Newton specifically added indigo to the list of colors for rainbows because he really liked the number 7. But it doesn’t make sense to have indigo as part of the main colors. The primary colors are red, blue, and yellow. The secondary colors are green, orange, and purple. Indigo is in between purple and blue so it’s none-of-the-above. If indigo were allowed to be as one of the main colors, then by the same logic, so should colors like lime, cyan, and three others.

See this picture? Can you even see indigo?

TECHnically speaking, the rainbow has infinite colors, each shade of the entire color spectrum is on there but there are clear boundaries for each main color group. By looking at the rainbow you can clearly see the main colors such as red, blue, orange, yellow, and green. Purple is a bit hard to see but there isn’t even that big of a trace of indigo. If anything, cyan should have been the 7th color, not indigo.
